Community

Americans are realizing more and more lately the value of community, as well as its loss in our mobile society.  Is this value in conflict with the rugged individualism of our national character as well as our Unitarian heritage?

How is community created?  How can it transform us?  How can it help us through such difficult times as we are in right now? What can we do to practice inclusion, and to nurture the communities we are part of, especially in this time of social isolation?

Worship Leader: Rev. Jane Thickstun
Worship Associate: Michelle Oyie
Music Leaders: Dan Loschen & The FPD Choir

Rev. Jane grew up in Potsdam, NY, and has degrees in Linguistics and Philosophy, both from Georgetown University, and prepared for the UU ministry at Meadville/Lombard Theological School, graduating in 2000. Before ministry, she worked as a mainframe programmer/analyst, taught English to people from all around the globe, and worked on a newspaper, to name just a few of her professional adventures. She enjoys hiking, singing, and contra dancing, among other things.

“We welcome you, whoever you are, whatever tradition, gender, race, class, sexual identity, ability, or age you represent. May you grow in the ways of respect, service, and wholeness. And through all your days may you know that you are loved.“

We are a lay-led congregation, meaning services and spiritual leadership are provided by community members rather than a designated minister. This reflects our commitment to shared ministry, where all members participate in roles such as worship leading, pastoral care, social justice work, and other community activities.
