First Parish Dorchester is looking to hire a part-time (up to 15hrs weekly) Events Coordinator to join our staff.
Supervisor: Office Administrator
Rate: The base rate for this position is $20.60 per hour. An additional $2-3 per hour is offered for candidates who are proficient in multiple languages, including Cape Verdean Creole.
Type: This is a part-time, non-exempt position up to 15 hrs per week depending on the Events Calendar.
The Role
The Events Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting our renters and community partners by ensuring a seamless and positive experience while using our church facilities. This part-time, non-exempt position involves preparing event spaces, assisting with event setup, overseeing vendor drop-offs and deliveries, and ensuring all post-event tasks are completed efficiently. The Coordinator is present during events to offer support and secure the premises after guests depart. Work hours are determined by the events calendar, with no events hosted on Sundays or Monday/Tuesday evenings.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Meet weekly for 1 hr with the Administrator to review upcoming events, discuss observations and suggestions for future events, etc.
- Serve as the main point of contact during events, providing assistance with setup, resolving equipment issues, answering questions, maintaining bathroom supplies, and ensuring overall cleanliness throughout.
- Prepare event spaces to ensure they are presentable before renters arrive.
- Run dishwasher as necessary if the kitchen is being used during events.
- Manage and put away any items used during the event, ensuring all areas are tidy.
- Ensure the cleaning checklist is completed by the renter(s) after each event.
- Check all rooms and lock up the premises after guests leave.
- Complete a post-event report, including details of any damages, and communicate with relevant parties (renters, office administrator, etc.) as needed.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (i.e., G.E.D.).
- Experience working with audio-visual equipment such as PA (public address) systems, setting up microphones, etc.
- Strong organizational and time management skills; reliable and punctual.
- Ability to problem-solve and think of solutions on the spot.
- Flexibility to work varied hours based on the events calendar.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow procedures and checklists accurately.
- Trustworthy and responsible, with the ability to possess and manage a building key and alarm code.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in multiple languages, including Cape Verdean Creole, Vietnamese, and Spanish–additional compensation provided.
