North Bennet Stree School streamed a Boston Public Quartet concert on Thursday, February 25
The North Bennet Street School (NBSS) held a virtual concert with Betsy Hinkle and Jason Amos, members of the Boston Public Quartet, live streamed from our First Parish sanctuary. They performed works on violin and viola by living Black composers Adolphus Hailstork and Jessie Montgomery, as well as Mozart and Schubert. Watch the video and read more information here!
Part of the concert was played on a Stradivari model violin made by NBSS’s Violin Making & Repair student Veronica Vaillancourt. First Parish has a special connection to NBSS. In 2013 Preservation Carpentry students employed their traditional woodworking skills in the restoration of our historic steeple and the building’s windows. For Throw Back Thursday here’s a 2014 Dorchester Reporter story that describes that project and the NBSS school role.
